Kray Castle – Municipal Museum of Bačka Topola

The Kray Castle is built in 1802. On the first floor you can find the Municipal Museum of Bačka Topola, the ground floor serves as a gallery and a place where wedding ceremonies are held.

The late baroque-style palace was built by the Kray family, the founders of the city. The foundation stone was laid on October 4, 1800 and was already furnished and ready to use in the winter of 1802. At the lower level of the building there is an art exhibition hall today, and on the upper floor is the Municipal Museum of Bačka Topola. The museum hosts biological, archeological, local history, literary and fine art exhibitions. Visitors can get an insight into the wildlife of the Krivaja river, the archeological sites of the ancient, Sarmatian, Avar and Middle Ages, as well as into the works of our fine artists and literary authors. They can check out dr. Imre Harkai architect’s library and dr. János Hadzsy doctor's memorial room.
