Synagogue in Subotica

The Synagogue in Subotica is a symbol of the city and its religious diversity.

The Synagogue in the center of Subotica, built in 1903, was designed in Hungarian Art Nouveau style by architects Marcell Komor and Dezső Jakab. The glass windows of the synagogue are made in the workshop of Miksa Róth. The strongly highlighted dome of the synagogue is the symbol of Jewish universality. The dome has a lantern, which was built with an oriental goldsmith art, and a hexagram. The main dome also has four smaller domes symbolizing four directions. The striking color harmony and gilded, relief-like decoration elements of the building are manifestations of Jewish spiritual wealth. The interior of the synagogue was completely renovated in December 2017 and awaits visitors in its old splendor.
