The parish church The Name of Mary is a Roman Catholic church located on the main square in the centre of Novi Sad. The church was built in 1895 and it is the work of architect György Molnár. It was built in neo-gothic style, at the site of the earlier church of 1742. It is dedicated to the Virgin. In October 1894, a gilded cross was erected to the tower. The tower is 72 meters tall. The church is 52 meters long and 25 meters wide, the height of the roof is 22 meters. There are 4 altars in the church. The main altar is in the apse with a large picture of the Mother of God with the Hungarian kings and saints István and László. Left to the apse there is the altar of the Resurrection of Jesus with wooden figures of St. Peter and Paul. The third altar is dedicated to St. Florian, the patron saint of the firefighters, where the figures of St. Emeric and Elizabeth are made of wood, and there is also a picture of the Holy Family. The fourth altar is located beneath the choir and it is dedicated to Christ's grave with figures of four angels. Sculptures on all altars are coloured or made in stone imitation. The façade is made of yellow facade bricks, and the church itself, as well as the interior carvings, is made in neo-gothic style. The windows are decorated with stained glass from Pest, while roof structure is covered with Zsolnay ceramics. People in Novi Sad call this church a cathedral, although it is not because the seat of the Bačka diocese is located in Subotica. The area behind the parish church is the so-called Catholic porta with the building of the church municipality - Plebania from 1809, the Vatican Palace and the Cultural Centre of Novi Sad. The church holiday, The Name of Mary, is celebrated on 12 September.
