Róka’s Farm

Róka’s Farm was built in North Bačka-style with mud walls and thatched roof, where various archaic stoves with open chimneys can be seen even today

Róka’s Farm is not far from Subotica, on the eastern shore of Lake Ludaš. It has been the gathering place of the local population from ancient times. One hundred years old farm is on the shore with an exceptional panorama of the beautiful lake. Reeds under the farm and a part of the lake called the Yellow Coast used to be favourite fishing places. The boatman had lived in the boathouse, as the farmhouse used to be called; a man who carried travellers to the other shore on large boats. Below the coast of the farm, fishermen dragged their nets, and they sold fish and cooked fish soup. Róka’s Farm has preserved the characteristics of three-part houses from North Bačka, with mud walls and thatched roof, where various archaic stoves with open chimneys can be seen even today. There is no electricity on the farm. The permanent exhibition is located in a separate building. It consists of several units. The archaeological section depicts the lives of people from Mesolithic to the Middle Ages. Most of the exhibits are original ones found around Lake Ludaš. The farm is located on the remains of a Neolithic settlement; therefore most of the objects originate from that period. The ethnographic part of the setting shows the characteristic objects from the beginning of the 20th century.
