Special Nature Reserve Titelski Breg

One of the most important loess plateaus in Central Europe. Flora rich in rarities, numerous bird species and archaeological sites await the visitors.

Titelski Breg is a hill, located in the south-eastern part of Bačka, near the mouth of the river Tisa, right next to the river. This area is actually a plateau of about 100 square kilometres, 50 meters above ground level. There are several reasons why this is one of the most interesting loess surfaces in Central Europe. The hill retains the paleo-climatic and paleo-ecological changes of the past 600,000 years. Many different erosion phenomena are observable in this area: valleys, loess pyramids, chasms etc. It is also unique from the botanical point of view, as there are over 600 species of plants here, one of which is the most spectacular small Sternbergia colchiciflora threatened by extinction. Its wildlife is also very rich, especially concerning bird and insect species. Some significant archaeological sites can be seen here, for example the remains of Feudvar, an area inhabited from the Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age.
