The Banat wine region, including the area around Vršac was one of the world’s largest wine growing regions during the 19th century.
The town of Vršac has a remarkable historical past and countless imposing buildings. The Saint Gerard bishop and martyr Roman Catholic parish church is one of the gems of the place, and the largest Catholic church in Serbia. The City Hall, the Episcopal Palace, the „Staired” Pharmacy, the Millennium Centre and the City Museum at the building of Concordia are all must-see attractions for travelers. The unique Vršac Mountains with the its tower rises above these attractions and looks over the hilltop houses.
The wine region of Banat and the Vršac region were one of the most famous wine producers in the world at the end of the 19th century. It is no wonder, however, that far-famed vineyards are still present in the coat of arms of the settlement. Here are some of the best wineries if we want to discover the area:
Vinik Winery
The family winery in the old German house in Vršac was founded in 2004. The owner of the cellar is Nikola Cuculj, a renowned wine expert, and the great master of the St.Teodor Wine Order of Banat, which has been a member of the Hungarian Association of Wine Orders since 2007. Among their wines are Chardonnay, Rhine Riesling, Black Muscat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Banat bermet. The mead made from meadow honey, which brings back the visitor to the past when this essential drink was a part of the rich feasts and exciting castle games, can be particularly interesting for guests. The cellar with oak tables can fit in 50 people. In addition to the wine tasting, lunch or dinner can be served, and a tambura band can entertain the guests if asked for.
